Venice, an absolutely beautiful city! It is incredible
how it can be everything it has promised in paintings,
books, and movies, and retain its charm even when immersed
in tourists.
Photographs don't relay the magical atmosphere of the
city at all. You have to go there yourself to experience
it.
Torcello and Burano
Torcello is an almost deserted (except for the
tourists) island several kilometres away from Venice. A
cathedral, S. Maria dell' Assunta, was originally founded
in the 7th century (rebuilt in the 11th) and houses a
beautiful mosaic wall from the 11th century. Quite next to
it is a smaller church, S. Focsa.
Burano, a small fishing village known for handmade
lace, is located next to Torcello so it is easy to visit
both.
